French

At Bishop Lonsdale, children in Key Stage 2 begin learning French. These fun lessons involve listening to and learning songs and traditional rhymes, stories or games and they are always very interactive. The activities provided give our pupils the opportunity to develop their confidence and ability in listening to, speaking, reading and writing French at their own pace.

There are three strands to the French curriculum: Oracy, literacy and intercultural understanding. Children learn about numbers, the alphabet, greetings, animals, family and many other themes. Activities are often repetitive, giving more confident pupils the chance to demonstrate to others if they wish and less confident pupils the opportunity to continue rehearsing French in different ways. Pupils will learn a bit about France and French customs, and compare some aspects of French culture to our own.
