We follow White Rose, using resources that help children learn in fun, hands-on, practical ways. The White Rose scheme of learning is designed to support a mastery approach, as well as to support the aims and objectives of the DfE EYFS statutory framework.
We provide opportunities to build reasoning and problem solving into each lesson as well through the independent and adult led activities in continuous provision. Activities are varied and ensure that children are able to build on their abilities by following a concrete-pictorial-abstract approach.
Concrete – children have the opportunity to use physical resources to help them understand what they are doing.
Pictorial – alongside this, children use pictorial representations. These representations can then be used to help reason and solve problems.
Abstract – both concrete and pictorial representations support children’s understanding of abstract methods.
